I tried the IBM JDK 5.0 beta on scimark and got a score of 304. With the JDK 1.6 beta (using -server), I got 350...so the IBM VM seems to be slower, atleast in this benchmark.

Anyone else got any benchmarks?

I don't see any source downloads, so you're still locked into using two OSes (and even the 1.3 and 1.4 only supported three OSes). Sun IP or not, their JDK runs on a whole lot more platforms.

If you just look at recent times, the number of installations on IBM based products are increasing ! *Quiety* releasing a JDK which is going to be(in future) the base for most of the applications deployed in future is just worrying !

It is true that J9 itself doesn't have any Sun IP, but the IBM JDK libraries are derived from the Sun libraries.
